About
Keli Hemingway, LCSW, C-EMDR, CHt
With thirty years of clinical experience, I offer a compassionate, whole-person approach to mind-body wellness. This approach, which I have developed over years of practice, recognizes that every individual’s journey is unique and that mental health is deeply interconnected with physical health and personal experiences. I believe in addressing all aspects of a person's life to promote holistic wellness.
Originally from Massachusetts, I spent my youth competing in drum corps as a rifle spinner, swimming at the lake, or enjoying the ocean of Cape Cod. I later moved to Virginia Beach and received a B.S in Counseling from Old Dominion University in 1996 and a Master of Clinical Social Work (M.S.W.) from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1999. During my summer undergraduate internship, I led group therapy programs at a women’s prison.
After graduate school, I moved to London, England, where I trained in cognitive behavioral therapy and cognitive hypnotherapy. This unique approach, which I have integrated into my practice, has proven to be a powerful tool for helping clients overcome various mental health challenges. I worked in England for several years as a therapist. While living in England, I had the opportunity to travel through Europe and gain an understanding and appreciation of different cultures, both their strengths and struggles. I later moved back to Massachusetts and worked as a mobile psychiatric emergency services provider and as a social worker in the emergency department.
I appreciate the complexity of the human experience, which is why I’ve continued to advance my clinical education and gather skills and knowledge in a variety of clinical settings since moving to Texas in late 2004. I have worked with battered women in shelters, children and teens of adoption and foster care, adults and children who experienced various traumas, medical and psychiatric hospitals, juvenile detention centers, adult prisons, and substance abuse treatment centers. Gaining experience working with a variety of populations allowed me to gain insight into the diverse ways people struggle and heal. These personal experiences enrich my understanding of the human experience and inform my practice.
I have an interest and measurable success in helping adults overcome low self-esteem, childhood and adult trauma, dissociation, anxiety, PTSD, and depression. Throughout our work together, I can offer a safe, accepting, and responsive environment where you can feel comfortable healing, making lasting changes, and achieving optimal wellness.
My approach is direct and rooted in empathy, non-judgment, and a steadfast commitment to your growth. I understand that life can be challenging, and I aim to support you in healing, growing, and thriving mentally and physically.
In my free time, I enjoy staying active, traveling, and spending time with my family, friends, grandchildren, and my poodle Neo.
